Women with disabilities from Lumbini Province shared their lived experiences, challenges, and
recommendations to strengthen inclusive reproductive health services.
Main Content:
Pahichan Nepal successfully concluded a two-day research workshop in Bardiya focused on inclusive and
accessible reproductive and health services for women with disabilities. The workshop is part of an
ongoing study designed to identify the real challenges faced by women with disabilities while accessing
reproductive and general health services, and to develop evidence-based recommendations for
improving accessibility and inclusion.
Over the course of two days, 30 women with disabilities from Lumbini Province actively participated in
interactive discussions, group reflections, and experience-sharing sessions. Participants highlighted the
barriers they encounter—such as physical inaccessibility, communication gaps, social stigma, and
discriminatory behaviour within health facilities.
Their voices, experiences, and practical suggestions were thoroughly documented, forming a strong
foundation for future advocacy and policy improvement.
Key Highlights of the Two-Day Workshop:
Documentation of personal experiences related to reproductive and general health services.
Identification of structural, attitudinal, and communication barriers within health systems.
Discussion on the importance of rights-based, respectful, and inclusive service delivery.
Collection of participant-driven ideas and solutions for improving access.
Strengthening confidence and leadership among women with disabilities to advocate for their health
rights.
Significance:
The collective insights gathered during the two-day workshop will play an important role in shaping
policy recommendations and strengthening disability-inclusive reproductive health services across the
province. The study aims to support government bodies and health institutions to take concrete steps
toward accessibility and inclusion.
Next Steps:
The research team will analyze all findings from the two-day workshop and prepare a comprehensive
report. The results will be shared with relevant stakeholders to promote evidence-based policy reforms
and inclusive health service delivery.
