Pahichan Nepal successfully conducted a Refresher Training of Trainers (ToT) on Paralegal Skills for Women with Disabilities on 10 February 2026 at Hotel United.
The refresher training was organized for Paralegal Committee Members and Women with Disabilities (WWDs) from Sarlahi District, Bara District, and Mahottari District of Madhesh Province.
Objective of the Training
The primary objective of the refresher ToT was to strengthen and update the legal knowledge and practical skills of paralegals and women with disabilities, enabling them to effectively support survivors of violence and rights violations. The training focused on bridging the gap between legal theory and field-level implementation, with special emphasis on access to justice for women with disabilities.
Key Sessions and Technical Inputs
The technical sessions were facilitated by Sunil Yadav, Director of Mithila Sarathi Samaj. Major thematic areas covered during the training included:
Legal rights of persons with disabilities and relevant constitutional and legal provisions
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and intersectionality of gender and disability
Role and responsibilities of paralegals in community-level justice support
Case identification, legal counseling, documentation, and referral mechanisms
Complaint filing procedures and navigation of the justice system
Exposure and Field Learning
To enhance practical understanding, participants took part in exposure visits to key justice and service institutions:
One-Stop Crisis Management Centre, where participants observed integrated services for survivors of violence, including medical care, police coordination, and psychosocial support.
Judicial Committee, Baragadhi Rural Municipality, where participants gained insights into local-level dispute resolution processes and the handling of disability-related cases.
Key Outcomes
The refresher ToT resulted in:
Enhanced legal confidence and skills among paralegal members and women with disabilities
Strengthened coordination and networking among district-level paralegals
Improved institutional linkages with OCMC and local Judicial Committees for future referrals
Increased empowerment of women with disabilities to engage with formal justice mechanisms
Conclusion
The Refresher Training of Trainers (ToT) on Paralegal Skills played a vital role in revitalizing the paralegal network in Madhesh Province. Equipped with refreshed knowledge and practical exposure, participants are now better prepared to provide legal first aid, referrals, and advocacy support within their communities.
Pahichan Nepal continues to work towards strengthening inclusive access to justice and the rights of women with disabilities and marginalized communities.
