Disaster Risk Reduction and Humanitarian Response
Pahichan Nepal provides rapid, needs-based humanitarian support to affected persons with disabilities and vulnerable women, girls, and children. Our recent flash flood response has focused on assessing the specific impacts and protection risks faced by persons with disabilities and marginalized groups, providing immediate relief and essential assistance, and coordinating with local authorities and humanitarian actors. Pahichan also supports referrals and linkages to appropriate protection, health, rehabilitation, psychosocial, and other essential services.
Description
Pahichan Nepal promotes disability-inclusive and gender-responsive Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) to ensure that women, girls, children with disabilities, single women, and other marginalized groups are not left behind before, during, or after disasters. Our DRR interventions focus on strengthening the participation, preparedness, protection, and resilience of communities that face greater risks and barriers during emergencies.
Pahichan works with persons with disabilities, women-led groups, local governments, communities, and other stakeholders to identify disaster-related risks and develop practical and inclusive preparedness measures. Our interventions include community-based risk assessment, awareness and preparedness activities, accessible information and communication, emergency planning, capacity building, referral and protection mechanisms, and advocacy for disability-inclusive DRR policies and practices. We promote the meaningful participation and leadership of women and persons with disabilities in local disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.
During emergencies, Pahichan Nepal provides rapid, needs-based humanitarian support to affected persons with disabilities and vulnerable women, girls, and children.
Pahichan believes that effective DRR must address both disaster risks and the inequalities that increase vulnerability. Therefore, we work to strengthen the resilience, voice, and decision-making power of women and persons with disabilities while advocating for accessible early warning systems, inclusive emergency preparedness, safe evacuation, accessible shelters and services, and meaningful representation in disaster management structures.
Through these efforts, Pahichan Nepal seeks to build communities where everyone can prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters with dignity, safety, and equal access to support and decision-making.
