4 Days Organic and Agro Farming and Animal Husbandry Training Program for Women with Disabilities
The Agro Farm and Animal Husbandry Training was conducted in Bardibas, Mahottari District, with 27 participants. The program specifically included participants from various districts of Madhesh Province: Mahottari, Bardibas, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, Siraha, Rautahat, and Bara. The training aimed to provide participants, primarily women with disabilities from rural communities, with comprehensive skills in both agro-farming and animal husbandry. The training included practical sessions on raising livestock, managing animal health, and understanding the key aspects of animal care and maintenance. Additionally, participants were introduced to agro-farming techniques that promote sustainability and improve agricultural productivity.
This training aimed to empower women to engage in more productive farming and livestock management practices, which can serve as a stable source of income for their families. Participants gained hands-on experience in managing small-scale farms and learned how these practices can contribute to food security and economic independence.
Key Achievements:
- Empowering Women with Disabilities: The training equipped participants with valuable knowledge and skills in organic farming and animal husbandry, particularly goat rearing. This newfound knowledge will enable them to generate income and achieve greater economic independence.
- Promoting Sustainable Livelihoods: Organic farming and animal husbandry practices were presented as a sustainable source of income for participants and their families.
- Shifting Mindsets: The program not only targeted participants but also invited family members and caregivers. This aimed to raise awareness about the importance of family support in the success of the participants’ ventures and to challenge negative attitudes and stereotypes towards women with disabilities.
- Reaching Underserved Communities: The program successfully reached women from remote areas of Madhesh Province, including a family with a blind mother and three blind children. The training provided them with crucial information on available resources and services.
- Overcoming Challenges: Challenges such as language barriers and transportation difficulties were effectively addressed through the use of a translator and door-to-door services for participants unable to travel to the venue.
