Policy Review and Orientation Trainings
Pahichan Nepal conducted intensive policy review and orientation trainings targeting a diverse group of stakeholders, including:
- Lawyers
- Media Personnel
- Public Representatives
- Local Leaders
- Civil Society Organizations (CSOs)
These training sessions were designed to provide in-depth knowledge about the current situation of women with disabilities particularly the single women with disabilities who may be unmarried, divorced, widowed, single mother, etc. and to enhance the understanding of key frameworks, including the localization of the UNCRPD (United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly as they pertain to this marginalized group.
Key Highlights:
- Raising Awareness: The trainings focused on educating stakeholders about the multiple challenges faced by women with disabilities. Emphasis was placed on issues such as social exclusion, gender-based violence, lack of accessibility, and the discriminatory practices that hinder the full participation of women with disabilities in society.
- UNCRPD Localization: Sessions explored the localization of the UNCRPD, ensuring participants understood the global commitments made by Nepal to uphold the rights of persons with disabilities and how these should be reflected in national and local policies. Discussions also delved into how these policies can be more effectively implemented to support women with disabilities in practice.
- SDGs and Gender Inclusion: The training also examined the importance of gender-inclusive development under the SDGs. Stakeholders were oriented on how SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality) specifically relate to the empowerment of women with disabilities, emphasizing the need for targeted actions to reduce barriers to their full participation in economic, social, and political spheres.
Impact and Outcomes:
- Increased Awareness: Participants left the training with a deeper understanding of the critical issues women with disabilities face, which will inform their work and advocacy efforts.
- Enhanced Collaboration: The training sessions fostered better communication and collaboration between key stakeholders, ensuring a more unified approach to addressing the rights and needs of women with disabilities.
- Commitment to Action: The trainings inspired stakeholders to advocate for better implementation of disability-inclusive policies and more gender-responsive strategies that support women with disabilities at local, regional, and national levels.
These trainings marked an important step in strengthening the network of individuals and organizations committed to advancing the rights of women with disabilities, with a clear focus on aligning local actions with international human rights frameworks.
